While at Canberra, we visited the National Arboretum - a 250 hectare site featuring 94 forests of rare, endangered and symbolic trees from around Australia and the world. It is one of the world's largest living collections of rare, endangered and significant trees. It was an awe-inspiring experience just being in that space that holds a lot of promise for our future generations. We had lunch at the cafe there which looks out into this open space; even though many of the trees are still young, it was still a spectacular sight to behold. It is also home to the National Bonsai and Penjing collection which houses some of the finest miniature trees and forests from around the world. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

On our road trip to Sydney, we took a detour to Canberra and spent a day there exploring some iconic spots. Though there's so much to see and experience in the Capital City, we could spare only a day but we put it to the best use. Of course starting with our Parliament House....we took an inside tour which is the best way to learn more about the history of this great nation. The staff are so friendly and always available to share interesting anecdotes and tidbits; truly a wonderful experience.

Brrr.....hasn't today been cold? Such a meh day and I was totally craving for some home cooked comfort. So it's a simple methi dal (mixed lentils with baby fenugreek leaves) and rice for dinner tonight. Gundagai is often referred to as 'Home of the Dog'. Based on a famous Australian folklore, the legend of the Dog which started doing the rounds in the early 1850s was immortalized by a popular song by Jack O’Hagan, Along the Road to Gundagai, Where the Dog sits on the Tucker Box has made Gundagai a favourite spot for locals and tourists alike.

While browsing through the souvenir shop at Gundagai Visitor Information Centre, I came across some wines from the local wineries on display. Based on the tasting notes, we bought a bottle of ‘Billy Noake’ Gundagai Cabernet Sauvignon 2015 from @tumblonghills winery. Named so in honour of remarkable characters from the Australian folklore, this wine has a rich and deep reddish magenta colour loaded with plum and berry aromas, hints of spice; deep on the palate yet retains the subtlety of a classic Cabernet. A very enjoyable wine and definitely a winery I would like to visit on my next trip to Gundagai.

Gundagai is a beautiful country town located on the Murrumbidgee River. Our reason for stopping here was to see Frank Rusconi’s Marble Masterpiece, a unique cathedral-in-miniature created to showcase the beauty and diversity of NSW marble. Made from 20,948 individual pieces of marble, each handcut and polished, this masterpiece was created over a period of 28 years. An extraordinary sculpture that is on display at Gundagai’s Visitor Information Centre.
